Data archiving: an impossible venture?

It shouldn't be. It's a matter of understanding the concept behind it: tidying up and prioritizing. Older data, whose processing has already been completed, are archived and then deleted from the SAP database. Always guaranteeing accessibility to the saved data from the same visualization transactions that we use on a regular basis.

The idea is to prioritize resources for live data, i.e. the most recent information that is expressing processes not yet completed or completed very recently.

This prioritization is crucial from two perspectives: the performance of system operations and the investment required to sustain them.

The data archiving technique provides a very positive response to both requirements. And it requires the alliance of the user front and the technological front of the organizations. The former need to be able to count on all the information (new and old) and are terrified at the thought of losing data. The others, who are responsible for ensuring that the systems provide a timely response, are the ones who complain about performance and demand more budget for the infrastructure, which is stressed by the constant and sometimes explosive growth of information in the databases.
